Max Power, south of the border.

So, we're playing out back on the slip-n-slide. Ade's giving it his best run and slide, but not quite sliding as far as he wants.

Me: "Gotta run faster pal."

Ade: Yelling, "I'm going for max power!" Running, slipping, sliding, splashing, etc.

Ade: "What does max mean?"

Me: "It means maximum, like the most of something. The highest amount."

Ade: "Oh, okay." Off he goes running again and yelling more loudly, "MEXICAN power."

Me: ROTFL

Adding insult...

So after that last zinger, he brought this while I was pushing him on the swing today.

Ade: "How long is tabby going to live?"

Me: "I don't know, maybe 15 years or more. Little dogs can live a while."

Ade: "Will she be really old, just like you?"

Young at heart.

Ade: "How long am I going to be alive?"

Dad: "Hopefully a long, long time. Long enough to see me become an old man."

Ade: "You already are old."

Ouch.

Donations

Ade: "We made a puzzle of a fire-hydrant at school today, and there was a donation."

Me: "The puzzle was donated?"

Ade: "No, there was a donation on the fire hydrant. You know, the fire men stay at the fire station and play with the donation, and play basketball all day."

Me: "You mean a dalmation?"

Ade: "Yeah, a donation."

Snack Mix

Ade and Mom were making a chocolatey, peanut-buttery, sugary, breakfast cerealy, treat one afternoon.

Mom: "I call this dog chow, because it looks a little like puppy food. Other people call it mud-puppies."

Ade: "I will call it dirty-doggies."

Indentured servitude

Mom and Ade were visiting Grandma at the hospital.

Ade: "How do you know where you're going?"

Mom: "I used to volunteer here."

Ade: "What's volunteer?"

Mom: "It's when you work, helping somebody, but you don't get paid to do it."

Ade: "You mean a slave?"

Blocking our view

We've been on an astronomy kick at our house, one afternoon when the moon was visible in daylight:

Ade: "Why can't we see into outer space?"

Me: "Well, right now it's day time but look, there's the moon. It's in outer space."

Ade: "Oh, we could see into outer space but the moon is in the way!"

Me: "Not exactly."

Numeracy

Ade: "Dad, do you have ten dollars?"

Me: "Nope."

Ade: "Do you have ten pieces of green money?"

Me: "No, I don't have ten pieces of green money either."

Creative Rhyming

So, Ade's working in his workbook identifying rhyming words. At the top of the page, a picture of a cat. Also on the page a bat, a hat, a boat, a truck, and a dog. He makes up a silly little rhyme, open scene:

Ade: "The cat is in the bat." Circling the bat.
Ade: "The cat is in the hat." Circling the hat.
Ade: "The cat is in the fat." He pauses, then circles the dog.

Me: "Does dog rhyme with cat?"

Ade: "Well Dad, that dog is a little bit fat. And fat rhymes with cat."

Me: "I guess you're right."

Bicycling

Ade finally got a two-wheeler today. We gave it a go without training wheels, but he wasn't quite ready for that yet so we put the training wheels back on. Even with the additional wheels he still tipped it over on the turns a few times, after one of this spills:

Me: "It looks like you're having some trouble with the turns."

Ade: "No, I'm having trouble with the falling down."

Later on in the day:

Ade: "I think I twisted my angle."

Bee-sting

So, Ade stepped on a bee in the backyard - his first bee-sting. We discovered that he's not allergic, thank God, and that our normally pretty tough little guy turns into an Italian when in a lot of pain.

Ade, (Interspersed with howls and sobs): "Mama-mia, Mama-mia! Why does it hurt so much?"

Mom: "No, they're not from China; they're not from Spain either."
